Note
to Beginning Researchers:
(1) Genealogy research is not a matter of days or months, but a matter of
years. Documentation must be researched, confirmed and reconfirmed. Each
book you read may have different information because each book is written
from the writer's point of view. Read carefully for source information and
check out the source. Do not automatically "assume" the reading
material is correct. You will experience road blocks and frustration - but,
when you find your own family information, the work becomes worthwhile.
You may decide to take a class or seminar in order to learn the "how
to's".
(2)
Using your online services is very important; but you will reach a time
that you will need to travel. Genealogy is locality based. Birth records
are where they were records, marriage records where they were recorded,
death records where they were recorded, and so on. Not all records are on
the web and may never be. So - utilitize your public libraries, archives,
genealogy societies and historical societies, etc.
Genealogy is ADDICTIVE and exciting! Enjoy!!
